Church of Nativity of Christ in Krokhino
Belozerskiy district of Vologda region
The aim of the project is to preserve and renovate the church of Nativity of Christ in Belozerskiy district of Vologda region, as well as other remaining churches in the inundation zone.
Our aim is to preserve the churches that embody the history of drowned settlements of Russia’s North. For the sake of future generations we must preserve the memory of people who lived in the villages drowned during the construction of the Volga-Baltic Canal.
The first stage of the project is to preserve the symbol of the epoch – the inundated church of Nativity of Christ in Krokhino settlement. According to specialists’ estimates it is urgent to make a berm, i.e. to fix the isle round the building with soil. Otherwise the southern wall of the church may collapse at any moment.
We can stop breakdown of the church right now!
Properly submitting the existing information to the authorities, attracting people’s attention to this problem, finding specialists’ support, raising money and promoting the information in the Internet and mass-media – today we are making first steps to reconstruct the church of Nativity of Christ, and we need your help!
Consultations in state bodies, discussions with restorers and other culture workers have given us a hope. It is possible to save a part of our history – the church over water in Krokhino, but no state institution of culture works with this problem today. That is why we started our project: we believe that our idea can be realized! Our cultural and spiritual heritage, the church of Nativity of Christ, as well as other churches of inundated settlements of Vologda region, can be preserved and reconstructed. We do everything we can. If we do not save the church now, in a few years we will have nothing to reconstruct.
We need your assistance and help!
